Our Lenten Journey 2020

Lent is 40 days from Ash Wednesday concluding with the Triduum (the three days) Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil. The 40 Days help us to identity with Jesus who spent 40 days in fasting and prayer in the desert before beginning his public ministry. Welcome to 40 days in the ‘Get Spiritually Fit Club’!! Accepting Ashes on Wednesday means signing on for this penitential programme, and growing closer to the Lord, in faith, in love and in life. The Gospel mentions three ways - Prayer (God), Fasting (Self) and Almsgiving (Others) – making time for God each day, - a time for Prayer, Weekday Mass, Stations of the Cross, Spiritual Reading, the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Reconciliation, Meditation, Serving and Helping those in Need, the Foodbank. Let us join together both as a school and parish community in commitment to pray, fast and give.

Ways that we can prepare during Lent

Speak to someone about the Faith – Pray Fast Give to the Poor – Read the Scriptures every day - Help a neighbour - Don't wait to be asked – Wear a symbol of Christianity –Support the Parish Activities- Go to Mass, Holy Hour, Stations of the Cross – Pray the Rosary – Pray together as a Family - [6-00pm!!!] - Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Faith-filled and Hopeful

This half term, the children will be learning to be faith-filled and hopeful for the future.  At school, we are trying to help them achieve this, through passing on the living and faith-filled tradition of Jesus Christ; by having persevering faith in the pupils, and by encouraging them, in turn, to have faith and hope in others.  Having faith is crucial to human well-being - faith in myself, my emotions, my judgements; faith in others and their faith in me; faith my family and in the communities to which I belong; and faith in God.  Faith cannot be taken for granted; it has to be built up day-by-day.  Once we begin to have a little faith, we have hope, because we can trust ourselves and those around us in the decisions which will shape the future. Without hope we become insular, lacking in love, and ultimately despairing.  The three core virtues of the gospel are faith, hope and love.

Prayer of the Week - PRAYER OF DEDICATION OF OUR PARISH DURING THE SEASON OF LENT

God our Father, as a Parish this day we re-dedicate our whole lives to the service of your Church. With confidence, we present our heartfelt prayers to You. We ask you to bless this Parish Community, our homes, our families. Strengthen with your peace all our days. We commend ourselves to the protection of Mary, our Lady, the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church. Through her prayers may we be preserved from all evil influences, now and at the hour of our death. This prayer we ask in the Name of Jesus who lives and reigns with you, the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
