Advent is the season of preparation and hope, culminating in the celebration of the birth of Jesus, which brings us the good news that we are loved unconditionally by God. This Sunday’s Gospel is also filled with hope. John the Baptist points away from himself towards Jesus. John makes it clear that it is Jesus that the people should follow: the hope of the world. Pope Francis reminds us,“Hope is a strength, a grace and a gift from God”. This season of hope is a great opportunity to be spiritually refreshed, to get rid of everything negative in life and make it altogether positive: to look forward knowing that God is with us. Let’s use this Season of Advent to make a fresh start and to be filled with hope. As part of our preparations during the season of Advent, we will be supporting the residents in our local community who need our support in these current, challenging times. With this in mind, we will be taking part as a whole school community to contribute to the local foodbank as a Reverse Advent Calendar initiative. Plastic boxes will be placed at the drop-off/collection points around school so that parents/children can donate items for the food bank. These will be quarantined before being sent to Our Lady and All Saints Parish Centre. The request of items from The Black Country Food Bank can be found via the link below. Thank you in advance for your continued support. https://www.blackcountryfoodbank.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Christmas-Shopping-List-with-toiletries.pdf
Children can continue to bring in Christmas cards to school during the week commencing 7th December. The children can deliver them into their class post boxes upon arrival to school. We ask that cards are given to those only in your child’s year group. Anything from home needs 72 hours of quarantine to be shared, therefore, the cards will be handed out on 14th December. We will not be able to permit Christmas cards into school from 11th December onwards.
Children in St. John's House can wear red to school on Friday 18th December to mark the feast day of their saint which will be celebrated during the Christmas break (27th December).

As you may be aware The Youth Sport Trust have taken the step to deliver a free virtual after school club as part of a national response to the second lockdown. The 30-minute club will take place at 5pm each weekday and be led by a different member of the YST's athlete mentor network. The first one aired on Thursday with world no.1 female inline skater and 10-time British Champion Jenna Downing. The After School Sport Club will run for five weeks until Friday 18th December, children and young people can take part live by visiting the YST YouTube channel. - http://www.youtube.com/user/YouthSportTrust.
Aimed mainly at primary-aged children, a different theme has been assigned for each day of the club - Adventure Monday, Tuesday Play, Wild Wednesday, Thinking Thursday and Fun Friday. The YST hope that this will provide support, capacity and inspiration to sit alongside the other great work and offers that are available for schools and children and young people to engage in.
Due to the arrangments of the national lockdown which came into force yesterday, there will not be any further Class Masses for children in school. Fr. Philip will livestream daily Masses from OLAS Church at 10am from Tuesday to Friday. Our school will be watching the Mass on Tuesdays which will be more child-centred.
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Children at St. Joseph's are growing to be: Intentional in the way they live and use the resources of the earth, guided by conscience; and Prophetic in the example they set to others.
For a life of prayer
We pray that our personal relationship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and a life of prayer.
